This year’s Offshore Decommissioning Conference, jointly organised by Decom North Sea and Oil & Gas UK, took place on 14 – 16 November at the Fairmont St Andrews Hotel.
John Lawrie Decom, who were once again conference lanyard sponsors, were delighted to take part in the event which showcases the decommissioning sector’s expertise and brings together a wide spectrum of oil and gas companies into one location.

More than 350 industry professionals attended the conference and visitors to the John Lawrie Decom stand proved eager to update their knowledge and learn from industry leaders.
The conference also provided the backdrop for the launch of a new study - Decommissioning Insight 2016 - published by Oil and Gas UK, which highlighted around 1800 oil wells which are due to be plugged over the next ten years.
More than £17bn will be spent on decommissioning North Sea oil platforms over the next decade, according to the report. Between the UK and Norwegian continental shelves more than 100 platforms will be completely or partially removed, with 7500km of pipeline forecast to be decommissioned.
John Lawrie Decom welcomes these figures and is focussed on its high-quality, cost-efficient decommissioning capacity which provides a range of services to meet this opportunity.
The total amount forecast to be spent on decommissioning on the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) between now and 2025 is £17.6bn, up from £16.9bn for the 2015-24 forecast.
Delegates also heard from the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy that 18 decom programmes are due to be approved by the Government.
