John Lawrie, the Aberdeen-based metal reprocessing, steel trading and environmental services company, has recently undergone a Verified Capability audit by independent assessors First Point Assessment Limited (FPAL), the oil and gas industry's supply chain database in the UK and Netherlands.

FPAL is widely regarded as the sector's supplier management system and the Verify scheme was developed by the industry for the industry. It aims to raise industry standards, enable information sharing within the sector and reduce the burden and duplication of repetitive audits by replacing them with a single shared one.

The onsite verification visit, carried out by an external auditor, involved a two day audit of John Lawrie's practices in the areas of Health and Safety, Training and Competency, Environment and, for the first time, Quality, which FPAL has recently added to their verification process. The company was delighted to receive higher scores in each of the categories listed than in the previous audit carried out in 2012.

Of particular note was the company's demonstrative commitment to Health & Safety and Environmental issues which was highlighted in the audit:

"The senior management place a strong commitment to the needs of their customers – the company personnel has considerable knowledge and practical experience of waste management and decommissioning as well as appropriate resources to enable them to realise the offered services."
