Scottish metal reprocessor and steel trading company, John Lawrie Group, has announced a sponsorship deal with Montrose Football Club that shows its support for the Links Park team during the forthcoming season.

The company, which is headquartered in Aberdeen and has recycling and processing facilities in Montrose, has become the official sponsor of the first team’s away strip until July 2013. The new strip has already made its debut as the third division club prepares for the 2012-13 season with a number of pre-season friendly matches. The team’s first official opportunity to wear the new away strip in a league fixture comes on Saturday, 18 August when Montrose travel to Hampden Park in Glasgow to face Queen’s Park.

The forthcoming season will see the Montrose team strive to build on last year’s performance when they finished eighth in the division three league, with player Martin Boyle recognised as the league’s top scorer. Montrose is also set to meet Rangers for the first time in over 35 years, following confirmation that the relaunched Rangers team has been voted into the Scottish Football League’s third division. The sides have met five times before; the last time was in 1976.

“The John Lawrie Group is delighted to become a sponsor of Montrose Football Club for the 2012-2013 season,” says Charlie Parker, Group financial director. “This Angus club provides its local community with a great deal of enjoyment, such as watching the home team in action, providing training opportunities for youngsters, and hosting and organising events. We are therefore keen to support its activities and, as a club sponsor, we hope we can encourage the first team to fulfil its potential in its various league and cup fixtures.”
