Aberdeen-based scrap metal reprocessor, steel trading and environmental services company, John Lawrie (Aberdeen) Limited, part of the John Lawrie Group, has been awarded ISO 14001 certification as part of its ongoing commitment to environmental best practice.
ISO 14001 is an internationally recognised standard that sets out how companies can establish an effective Environmental Management System, which promotes the implementat ion, maintenance and continuous improvement of EMS.
The John Lawrie Group introduced its own environmental policy last year following the appointment of environmental director Ray Grant and project manager June Sutherland. The company will apply ISO 14001 to manage conformance with its own policy as well as compliance with environmental laws, regulations and customer expectations.
Commenting John Lawrie’s June Sutherland said: “The way in which we conduct our business with regard to matters of the environment has always been a key driver for our clients. We are delighted that our commitment has been confirmed by independent experts resulting in the award of ISO 14001 certification.”
Simon Parker, who undertook the assessment for QMS Quality Management Systems, paid tribute to “the investment in people and training that enables John Lawrie to provide an efficient and environmentally friendly service to their customers.”
The John Lawrie Group, from its headquarters in Aberdeen, employs over 100 people. The company, which was established some 70 years ago, has operations and interests in the UK, continental Europe, the USA, Canada, Scandinavia, China and the Middle East.
