Artist Bio: Fiona Chance is a mixed media artist from Dublin now living in Aberdeen with a first class honours degree in Fine Art Printmaking. When not painting, spraying, sticking and printing, Fiona can be found running creative workshops for adults and children at Createwithus. Fiona has been involved in various public art projects including the Wild Dolphins, Coast Arts Festival, Oor Wullie Bucket Trail and various murals. She has raised a significant amount of money through her art for various charities.

Artist Inspiration: Pupils from two classes created individual superhero masks that reflect all different types of heroes and links to the overall campaign theme of ‘dreaming big.’ The Big Hero 20 is a nod to the movie Big Hero 6. The inspiration for the superhero theme is twofold: firstly, it is a fun and engaging theme for primary-aged children. Secondly, and perhaps most importantly, the theme reflects the true ‘heroes’ of this project – those who are supported by the Friends of ANCHOR charity.

Location: Duthie Park, Aberdeen.

Sponsor: John Lawrie Group

2017 is a particularly special year for Friends of ANCHOR as it marks 20 years since the charity began – a charity with a vision to help make cancer and haematology care in the North-east of Scotland the best it can be.

To mark the 20th anniversary, Friends of ANCHOR has launched the ‘Dream Big’ campaign – its biggest fundraising appeal ever by pledging £1m to the University of Aberdeen’s ambitious £4.5m project to attract and recruit a world-class oncology research team to the North-east of Scotland. This will have a lasting impact on the care, treatment and wellbeing provided to local cancer and haematology patients.

The 20for20 voyage is the charity's milestone anniversary project which will contribute to this appeal and provide a platform for the public as well as artists, sponsors and partners to raise awareness of the charity and get involved in a creative and exciting way.

20 anchors have been individually designed and decorated by very talented local artists and will be on display throughout the North-east of Scotland, Orkney and Shetland from 1st July through to the end of October.

The artists have poured their creativity and emotions into each anchor. Follow the map to see them all!
