JOHN LAWRIE GROUP PLAYS IMPORTANT ROLE IN CONSTRUCTION OF NEW A.E.C.C.

Work is now well underway in the creation of the new Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) at the city’s Bucksburn.

The new facility will include an arena, conference halls, a subterranean multipurpose space, Energy Centre, hotels and car parking.

John Lawrie Group was very pleased to supply more than 20,000m of piling pipe to Northern Piling Limited (NPL), a ground engineering company specialising in the design and installation of driven piling and foundation systems.

The piling pipe which the John Lawrie Group supplies has all been safely recycled from North Sea oilfield wells and structures. These redundant tubulars, which John Lawrie acquires from major North Sea operators and supply chain companies, are reprocessed at the company’s Montrose facility for recycling into piling products to be used both locally in the north east and throughout the UK.

NPL began a six-month contract, which commenced in December 2016, to install approximately 1750 piles for the landmark AECC project. Pile lengths varied in size between 12m to 19m for a combination of 244mm and 273mm casings with anticipated quantities reaching around 21,500m.

The piling operation - due to be completed at the end of May 2017 - has included a large double-storey subterranean car park, which involved large-scale excavation works, and hotel and centre foundations.

Aberdeen City Council, its development partner Henry Boot Developments (HBD) and main contractor Robertson Construction say the new AECC is on course to open in 2019.
