  • ONSHORE PROCESSING AND RECYCLING OF VARIOUS SUBSEA MATERIALS VIA NORTHEAST PORTS FROM PREMIER OIL’S SHELLEY FIELD.

John Lawrie was contracted by Premier Oil to receive and process a wide range of recovered subsea materials from the Shelley Field which ceased production in 2010. Working closely from an early stage with the offshore recovery contractors and the client, the project was safely carried out over four campaigns with materials being received at the Ports of Aberdeen, Peterhead, Montrose and Invergordon.

The recovered items consisted of manifold roof panels, concrete ballast blocks, plastic coated steel pipe, concrete mattresses, general scrap, umbilicals and a large steel protection structure (approx. 120 tonne - top photo) which was initially size-reduced on the quayside at Invergordon to enable onward transportation.

The materials were transported from the quayside and processed for recycling at John Lawrie’s licenced waste treatment facilities located at Aberdeen, Montrose and Invergordon with the exception of the concrete mattresses (550 tonnes) which were, uniquely, reused in a farm in Aberdeenshire to firm up soft ground, under approval from SEPA.

”A total of 95% of the materials received were reused and recycled.“

John Lawrie provided all onshore craneage, specialist low loader haulage, handling equipment, personnel and resources, along with all relevant Method Statements and Risk Assessments, resulting in an incident free operation.
